The Triple Threat
Huawei has been teasing the P20 Pro camera for quite some time. The company has been pitching the P20 Pro as the ultimate camera phone. Huawei was one of the first companies to come up with a dual camera setup on a smartphone and they have done it yet again with the triple camera setup on the P20 Pro. The rear camera unit of the P20 Pro consists of an 8MP 3X Telephoto lens, 40MP Main RGB Lens, and a 20MP monochrome lens. Color temperature sensor comes embedded. Other mention-worthy camera features include zero shutter lag, camera startup time of only 0.3 seconds and intelligent motion detector.
Hybrid Zoom
The Huawei P20 Pro offers 3X optical zoom, 5X hybrid (lossless) zoom, and a 10X digital zoom. According to Huawei, this is the most powerful zoom that is currently being offered on a smartphone. The phone seems to stay true to its claims and we could see it in the demo wherein the Huawei P20 Pro could still capture text in detail even after a zoom of 10x. Adding to this, the new laser focus system has been upgraded from 1.2m to 2.4m. The device supports slow-motion videos of up to 960fps.
4D Predictive Focus
The 4D Predictive focus feature is a super useful tool for your photography needs. The technology has hundreds of unique autofocus points and this helps the camera determine where the subject is moving. With the help of 4D Predictive Focus, the camera is expected to offer a much faster and more accurate autofocus. Meanwhile, the users will still be able to autofocus across the entire screen.
Master AI
Most of the smartphone companies are generously coining the AI term and relating it to their advanced camera features. Huawei is now offering a Master AI camera feature which detects 500+ scenarios and segregates the same according to categories. Now the AI jumps into action and uses the best setting for a particular scenario. For instance, if it is a group photo the Master AI will ensure that everyone is in the frame.
Huawei AIS (AI Image Stabilization)
The Huawei AIS is a subset of the Master AI feature but the former deserves a special mention. The Huawei AIS is apparently an optical image stabilization spin-off. The AIS deploys AI for the purpose of image stabilization. With the Huawei AIS, one can make use of machine learning based multi-frame stabilization. Additionally, the Huawei P20 Pro is also capable of taking photos with exposure as long as six seconds.
Triumphs DxOmark
The DxOmark has been increasingly popular and most of us have been referring to the same to benchmark cameras. We do agree that the benchmark is not exactly a feature but it does give you some pointers on how good/bad a smartphone camera is. Just today, even Xiaomi touted their DxO Mark score for the Mi Mix 2S. The Huawei Honor P20 scores a mighty impressive 109 in the overall category of the DxO Mark. This is in contrast to the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S9+ that manages to score 99.
Fast Charging
Huawei P20 Pro comes equipped with a 4000mAh battery that supports fast charging. The company claims that Huawei P20 can be charged from 0-58% in just 30 minutes and this is apparently 3x faster than the iPhone X fast charging. But you got to wonder why they didn’t compare this with something like the OnePlus 5T with Dash charging.
The Google Collaboration
Huawei has collaborated with Google to bring the best of their features to their latest flagship. The Huawei P20 Pro comes with a custom Google Assistant. It also qualifies as the first wave of devices with Google ARCore and Android messaging using the NPU. Huawei has also worked to curate the AR content and the feature is supported in China via the Huawei app store.
Face Unlock
It is kind of outdated to release a new flagship phone and miss out on face unlock feature. Well, the Huawei seems to have duly noted this and is offering a 360-degree Face Unlock. The Face Unlock feature is said to work well even in the dark and Huawei claims it is twice as fast as the iPhone X and the Galaxy S9+.
Huawei PC Mode
The Huawei PC Mode is very similar to the Samsung DeX. With this feature, you can turn your Huawei P20 Pro into a desktop by connecting it to a larger display. The Huawei PC Mode offers multitasking and multi windows alongside keyboard and touchpad on the phone.
