If you are reading a really interesting book that you cannot bear to put down or you want to settle in bed after a long day and just read and relax without disturbing others around you, this is THE feature for you. It allows you to read in the dark without attracting much attention and without putting too much strain on your eyes.
How to activate Kindle Dark Mode?
It is pretty easy to activate as well. All you have to do is follow these simple steps and you will be all set to read through the dark…
1. Seek out them Settings
Now there are two ways to go about this. You can either tap on the big Settings icon on top of the display and from there select “All Settings” or you can hit three little dots present on the top right corner of the display and then choose “Settings” in there.
2. Tap on the little human
You might feel the urge to hit Reading Options on this menu. Resist it. Because brands just cannot make things that simple, you see. Instead, select “Accessibility”. Yes, the option with the tiny little human for an icon.
3. Invert, Invert, Invert
Here you will find the “Invert Black and White” option and toggle right next to it. Switch it from “off” to “on.”
4. Read (duh!)
Voila! Your Kindle would have now joined the dark side, with white text against a black background. To resume normal service, just follow the same steps and turn off “Invert Black and White.”
Keep a few things in mind though. This feature is unfortunately not available on all Kindles. The base model of the e-reader does not support it, although the Kindle Oasis and the new Kindle Paperwhite come with this feature. Also, this not a typical dark mode and is just a feature that turns black into white and white into black. While this works just fine for text, pictures can get really messed up. So would not advise turning this feature on while looking at images or reading graphic novels. Finally, in this mode, changing the screen brightness settings might not seem to make as much of a difference as in normal mode. But if all your heart desires is a good read without drawing too much attention to yourself or if like us you are just a sucker for a dark screen, this is the feature for you! Go ahead, head to the dark and read. We know we already have.
