So let’s take a look at the few things which differentiates the OnePlus 3T from OnePlus 3.
Design
OnePlus has gone out with the exact same design on the OnePlus 3T as on the OnePlus 3, so much so that the dimensions and weight are same as well. And I don’t blame them at all. The OnePlus 3 was a beautifully designed smartphone, despite carrying HTC’s design ethics, and now the OnePlus 3T carries forward the same with just some changes to the color options. Instead of Graphite, the OnePlus 3T will be available in Gunmetal, which is more brown-ish than gray. The subtle yet beautiful soft cold variant is retained.
Camera
At first look, it’d look like OnePlus hasn’t worked too much on the cameras, but that’s not the case. The obvious change is the new 16MP front selfie-camera (made by Samsung) as against the 8MP we saw on the OnePlus 3. And it’s just not the megapixel count that has doubled, but there’s also a Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) for the front camera on the OnePlus 3T. That’s neat! As for the rear camera, there were rumors that the OnePlus 3T would come with an upgraded Sony IMX 398 sensor, but OnePlus has retained the same IMX 298 sensor that we saw on the OnePlus 3. But thanks to Snapdragon 821, there is EIS 3.0 in place of EIS 2.0, which means better videos!
Battery
This is another obvious change on the OnePlus 3T as compared to the OnePlus 3. The latter came with 3000mAh battery which didn’t quite hold up as well as the ones we saw on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 or Google Pixel XL. Thanks to Dash Charging, people didn’t really complain too much about that. Now, OnePlus 3T comes with a bigger 3400mAh battery, which should really help the matters. Surprisingly, OnePlus has managed to keep the dimensions and the size exactly same, so kudos to their engineering team for achieving that.
Processor & Storage
The most leaked specification of OnePlus 3T was the presence of Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (clocked at 2.35GHz) in place of Snapdragon 820 that we saw on the OnePlus 3. There were some rumors about OnePlus 3T coming with 8GB of RAM (which is quite insane), but OnePlus is happy with 6GB of RAM. But now, we now have two different storage variants – 64GB and 128GB. As you’d expect, there is no microSD slot on the OnePlus 3T as well. Apparently, the storage is faster as well, helping with faster opening/switching of apps.
Price
Recently, we had written a detailed article on how OnePlus is casually swooping on the premium market, and we have been proved right yet again. The new OnePlus 3T is priced at $439 for the 64GB version and $479 for the 128GB version. In case you don’t remember, the OnePlus 3 was priced at $399. Slowly and surely, OnePlus is stepping up their game in every way! In terms of the display, software or dash charging, there are no differences as such between the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. In fact, OnePlus has clarified that both the phones will be getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update at the same time later this year.
